Union Minister of State for Finance Namo Narain Meena said in his written reply to N Chaluvarayaswamy (JD-S) in Lok Sabha on Monday that after studying the proposal the Centre has decided to reject it as it would not fall within the scope of the agriculture debt waiver and debt relief scheme announced by the Government of India in 2008. When the Centre announced a Rs 71,000 crore farmer’s debt waiving scheme in 2008 budget, Karnataka had sought reimbursement of Rs 1,880 crore for a similar scheme implemented by it a year ago in the State.
