As many as 1,091 job aspirants have got placed in different firms by the end of two day Mega Job Mela, out of the 42,080 candidates who had registered.

The Mela was organised by District Adminstration, Labour Department and Department of Industries. Deputy Commissioner C Shikha said that on day two, around 10,830 aspirants had registered and 12,350 candidates had been shortlisted by various companies. They would be recruited and given offer letters by the end of the financial year, she added.

Sandeep from Bangalore who was placed in a hotel said that he was happy to be placed as marketing executive soon after the completion of his MBA course.

While Shivaraj, who had come all the way from Dharwad was however unhappy about his placement.

“I came here to search for a better job. But, I was hired as an advisor in ING Vysya with just Rs 12,000 salary per month. I am being paid a better salary at my present job,” he said.

Interestingly, around 50 per cent of the job aspirants who participated in the Mela are already employed at various firms.

They had come in search of better opportunities, and some even succeeded in getting their desired jobs, said MLA M K Somashekar. “The response was overwhelming. A web portal will be launched by the next job mela to make the registration process less cumbersome,” he said.
