A man was burnt alive while trying to rescue his neighbour from being stabbed in Ullal Satellite Town on Monday. The deceased is Nagaraj, a mason.

According to police, Nagaraj’s neighbour Manjula had lent Rs three lakh to Madhu, a family friend, who lost the money in gambling. Madhu was furious with Manjula for demanding repayment.

He went to her house on Monday night, allegedly to kill her. He asked her for a glass of water. When she went in to get it for him, he stabbed her from behind and poured petrol on her. He then set her on fire.

Hearing her screams, Nagaraj rushed inside the house. Madhu doused him with petrol and set him on fire. He died on the spot. Madhu also sustained severe burns as Manjula hugged him. Later, Manjula and Madhu were shifted to Victoria hospital.
