A 27-year-old Nigerian was allegedly robbed, thrashed and thrown out of a moving car by unidentified assailants on the pretext of giving him a lift in south Delhi’s Pul Prahladpur on Monday.

The victim has been identified as Samuel, a resident of south-east Delhi’s Sangam Vihar. Police said he is married to a woman from West Bengal but lives in the Capital alone.

“On Monday, Samuel had gone to meet some of his friends in Deoli village. The incident took place when he lost his way while returning home,” said a police officer.
Samuel spotted a car occupied by five persons and asked them for directions.

The car occupants, in turn, asked him to sit in the car saying ‘they were going to the same place’.

Soon after Samuel got into the vehicle, the occupants told him to hand over cash and other articles.

When he resisted, the accused beat him up. They even used an iron rod during the assault and then threw him out of the moving vehicle in a secluded place.
“Samuel managed to meet some locals at a nearby bus stand. They helped him inform police,” the officer added.

A police control room van staff reached the spot and rushed Samuel to the AIIMS trauma centre.

He sustained minor injuries and was discharged after first-aid treatment.
A case under Indian Penal Code has been registered with Pul Prahladpur police station.

In his statement to police, Samuel said that his mobile phone and wallet were taken away by the robbers.
