CCTV cameras to keep a tab on offenders in Madikeri

To maintain law and order in Madikeri, the police have started installing CCTV cameras at strategic locations in the city. A sum of Rs 19 lakh would be utilised for the same.

It will be installed at all major junctions for effective traffic maintenance and crime control. In the first phase, it has been installed at private bus shelter, KSRTC bus shelter, in front of CMC building and Indira Gandhi Circle. 

In the second phase, it will be installed at 10 places, including Sudarshan Circle, General Thimmaiah Circle, town police station, Web Road, College Road, Rajaseat, market and Jamiya Masjid. CCTV cameras will be controlled from control room and office of Superintendent of Police. 

As a safety measure, the government had decided to install CCTV cameras in all major cities in the State. Accordingly, the district had received Rs 19 lakh.

The public feel that it will put a check on traffic offenders. Visuals from the cameras can be viewed round the clock at the control room and be stored for three months. The control room has a facility to view visuals from different cameras at the same time. It can capture the registration number of vehicles from a distance. DySP Prasanna V Raju said, CCTV cameras will help check crime to some extent.
