Users can recharge at Metro swipe gates

Starting Wednesday, Metro commuters can recharge their smart cards at the swipe gates at almost 54 stations across the city.

The auto top-up facility through Automatic Fare Collection gates was launched at Barakhamba Road station by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Managing Director Mangu Singh.

The stations where this facility will be there include all stations of Line Five (Inderlok-Mundka) and Line Six (Central Secretariat-Badarpur), nine stations of Line Two from Chattarpur to HUDA City Centre, five stations on Red Line – Dilshad Garden, Shahdara, Welcome, Seelampur and Shastri Park, and eight stations on Blue Line – Karkarduma, Nirman Vihar, Lakshmi Nagar, Pragati Maidan, Barakhamba Road, R K Ashram Marg, Jhandewalan and Rajendra Place.

The DMRC has partnered with ICICI Bank for this top-up facility. One has to fill up a form giving the mandate to deduct a particular amount from their credit or debit cards.

The form may be collected and submitted to the ICICI staff deployed at seven Metro stations – Sikanderpur, Huda City Centre, Badarpur, Nehru Place, Govindpuri, Lajpat Nagar and Kailash Colony from 10 am to 5 pm throughout the week. Also, passengers may leave their contact details at the customer care centres of 54 Metro stations and ICICI officials will directly contact them.

“Once the application is approved by ICICI Bank, it will take a week to register the smart card for the auto top-up facility and link it to the account,” a DMRC spokesperson said. “Passengers will have to activate their smart cards for this facility from any of the 41 designated Metro stations.”

Once the smart card gets registered for the auto top-up facility, Rs 200 will be added to the card when the balance of the smart card goes below Rs 100. This Rs 200 will be deducted from the passenger’s credit or debit card by the bank and credited to the DMRC’s account.

“The DMRC hopes to extend this facility to all stations of the network in the next six to eight months. All Metro stations of Phase-III will have this facility,” the spokesperson added.
