Dear Sir,

I am a 2nd PUC student. I will be giving my board exams in March 2010. I am interested in Automobile Design. Please give me information about the course, colleges offering the course, fee structure and the admission procedure.

Rajath Rao

Dear Rajath,

Automobile Design is usually not offered at the degree level in India. Most students first complete their BE in Automobile/ Mechanical/ Production Engineering, and then specialise in design. Admission to the BE course is through various entrance exams like IIT-JEE, AIEEE, CET etc. UPES (www.upesindia.org) offers a four-year BTech course in Automotive Design Engineering. Admission is through their own exam called UPESEAT and fees is approx Rs 1 lakh a semester.

Dear Sir,

My daughter is a 2nd PUC student. Could you suggest a few courses in Mysore besides Medicine or Engineering? She has taken Electronics as one of her subjects in PUC. She is creative and likes to travel. She does not seem keen on working in the IT sector despite having good scores (88% in 1st PUC).

Madhuri Mallinath

Dear Madhuri,

Since your daughter is artistic and has a good score, she can consider visual communication, computer applications, web-page design, animation — all of which offer great opportunities to work abroad.  It will certainly help if she completes her BE in Electronics Engineering and then specialises in any of the above, but if she is not keen on pursuing engineering, then she can take up BCA (Bachelor of Computer Applications) which is available in many colleges in any city, and sign up for additional courses in design.

Dear Sir,

I am a final year student of Mechanical Engineering. I want to do MBA but I am not aware of specialisations available. I am keen on studying in Karnataka.

Akaash Kulkarni

Dear Akaash,

Since you are in the final year, you should start preparing immediately if you wish to get into a good B school for your MBA. As you have missed CAT, which is the entrance exam for the IIMs, you could prepare for K-MAT, which is held in May every year for admission to any one of the MBA colleges affiliated to VTU in Bangalore, Mangalore, Mysore etc.  You could also start preparing for MAT, which will be held in May 2010, as many reputed B schools and autonomous institutions take MAT scores for admission. You will have to choose the college based on your merit ranking.
