Railways okays under bridgeon Padil-Bajal road

In fact, Southern Railway has written to Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel that the proposal to construct an underpass will be included in the list of work programmes of railways for 2009-10.

Responding to the letter written by Kateel to the Union Railway Minister Mamatha Banerjee urging steps for construction of RUB, Muniyappa said the railway ministry would take necessary steps to construct the RUB.  In his letter, Kateel had said that the region has around 45,000 population.

Trains pass through level crossing every 10 to 15 minutes causing traffic block and inconevenice to the office goers, students, patients in need of emergency medical service.

Further, the chief bridge engineer had stated that the traffic density on this level crossing qualifies for its replacement by a railway over bridge or railway under bridge (RUB) on cost sharing basis and the state government should sponsor the proposal in 2006.

In fact, the state government had agreed to the proposal and requested the divisional railway manager, Southern Railway, Palghat to take necessary steps to include the proposal in the railway works programme for 2006-07. But it was not included in the railway budgets for 2006-07, 2007-08 or 2008-09, he added.
