JOIN USSB Apoorva of True Bounce Tennis Academy won the girls’ under-16 singles title at the Jain-AITA Talent Series tennis championship at the JIRS courts on Tuesday.
Local lass, Apoorva, seeded fourth, defeated unseeded Shruthi Panduthurai of Tamil Nadu 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) in the final. In the boys’ section, second-seeded Sai Pranav Ponaka defeated top seed Raul Shankar 6-2, 6-2 in the final.
Apoorva, who rallied to beat the second seed, Bhumika 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the semifinals, produced another fighting display in the final when she trailed 3-5 in the second set after winning the first 6-2.
She rallied to take the set and match on a tie-breaker.
