Last Updated 11 March 2014, 20:15 IST

A two-and-a half-a-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a man near Begur Main Road under the Electronics City police limits on Monday night.

The suspect was arrested on Tuesday after an intense search, police said. Rajendra Sahani, 25, a native of Bihar, had settled in the City around five years ago and was working as a construction labourer in Bommanahalli.

He used to visit the parents of the girl who worked at a building site belonging to Mookambika Builders on Begur Main Road. The girl and her parents are also said to be from Bihar. On Monday night, Rajendra visited the family as usual and told the girl’s parents that he would take her out to buy her chocolates and biscuits. But he instead took her behind an empty shed nearby, raped her and fled the spot.

At around 10 pm, the girl returned home crying and her parents noticed her bleeding from her private parts. They rushed her to a nearby hospital and informed the police.

The police who visited the spot took the girl to St John’s Hospital for medical examination and further treatment. A case has been registered.
