Former India captain Ajith Wadekar endorsed Sunil Gavaskar’s view that senior cricketers should be appointed coach of Indian cricket team and that Rahul Dravid was the most suitable person for the job.

Wadekar was speaking to reporters at the KSCA stadium at Rajnagar on Wednesday during a national-level cricket tournament for the physically challenged. He was also of the view that foreign coaches would not be with the team always as they attend only major tournaments and lacked knowledge of local sports culture.

While also throwing in the names of Gavaskar and Sourav Ganguly as eligible candidates to replace an under-scanner coach Duncan Fletcher, Wadekar stressed that Dravid was most suitable to become coach.

He, however, backed MS Dhoni to continue as the captain till the next World Cup.  Wadekar also lamented BCCI’s indifference to the attempts being made to get recognition for cricket played by physically challenged persons.
