Dhananjay puts JD(S) plan on hold

Last Updated 12 March 2014, 19:04 IST

V Dhananjay Kumar, who quit the BJP to join the KJP founded by former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, has been hoping against hope that Yeddyurappa would convince the BJP central leaders to take him back to the party fold.

Waiting for the BJP to take a final decision, Kumar is learnt to have put on hold his plan to join the JD(S).

It is learnt that Yeddyurappa, who will be in New Delhi on Thursday, may make yet another attempt to convince the leaders as to why the party should take back Kumar, Legislative Council member M D Lakshminarayana and others who had stood by him when he quit the BJP.

Kumar on Wednesday met JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda to discuss his prospects if he contests the Lok Sabha elections. However, Kumar could not put forth clearly if he was ready to sever ties with Yeddyurappa.

When contacted, Kumar told Deccan Herald that the JD(S) has suggested him to contest from Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency instead of Dakshina Kannada. “I have time till March 19. I will visit the constituency and take a decision on the basis of the feedback from my supporters,” he added. If he contests, he will take on BJP candidate Shobha Karandlaje and sitting MP Jayaprakash Hegde (Congress) in the Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency.
