LG restructures DDA for efficiency

Last Updated 12 March 2014, 20:06 IST

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung on Monday ordered restructuring of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to make it more efficient.

“The Delhi Development Authority would be restructuring its processes, including the working of its departments. This is with intent not just to revamp the DDA but to equip it with modern processes to enhance its efficiency,” the LG’s secretariat said in a statement.

Former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit was also unhappy with the functioning of DDA, the agency which owns maximum land in the capital. She even termed it as a “slow elephant” and accused the department for halting the development process in the city.

The decision was taken following a high-level meeting at the LG’s office. The meeting was attended by the Chief Secretary of Delhi Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, Vice Chairman of DDA Balvinder Kumar, National Productivity Council's Director General Harbhajan Singh, and other senior DDA officials.

“The road map for DDA's restructuring aims to analyse the present role of DDA and its future undertakings, which are in line with Delhi Master Plan 2012. The restructuring will involve a comprehensive study of the processes used for implementing various schemes of the DDA,” the statement said.

“It will identify improvement of such processes by adopting customised computerisation, automation, multi-tasking, multi-skilling etc,” said a senior official at LG’s secretariat.

“The restructuring will also involve an examination of various activities and functions of the department and suggest alternatives for the irritants which are making the process lengthy. It will ensure infusion of greater productivity in to DDA’s day to day functioning,” the officer added.

Also, revisiting the organisational set up of DDA and suggestions for measures to be adopted for improving its productivity and better delivery of services to public will be done.

He has instructed the DDA officials to finish the exercise in the next four months.
