<p> An eight-year-old schoolgirl was mowed down by a truck near Rajarajeshwari Nagar in Lagger on Thursday morning when she was riding pillion on her father’s motorcycle on her way to school. <br /><br />Lavanya, a class 2 student at Ashwini School in LG Ramanna Extension, Laggere, was run over by a truck as it hit her father Honneshappa’s motorcycle head-on around 8 am, police said. Passersby rushed her to a nearby hospital but she died of grievous injuries. Honeshappa suffered minor injuries and was given first aid. <br /><br />Meanwhile, the angry public pounced on the truck driver, Ramanna, and thrashed him. Later on, the police intervened and took him to a hospital. The truck is said to be owned by a man named Channappa and the driver is in the custody of police. A case has been registered. <br /><br />Biker killed<br /><br />A 22-year-old man riding pillion on his co-worker’s two-wheeler was killed when the motorcycle crashed into a road divider in Sanjaynagar in the early hours of Thursday. <br />Mahadeva, a native of Bidar, was riding pillion on the bike of his Naveen Kumar when they were returning home from work. Kumar could not control the vehicle and crashed it into a road divider around 1.30 am. Mahadeva fell off the vehicle and badly hurt his head, leading to excessive bleeding. He died instantly, the police said. <br /><br />Mahadeva lived in Peenya Dasarahalli. Kumar, who also sustained multiple injuries, is being treated at the Baptist Hospital. The duo worked for a private company in the City. The RT Nagar traffic police have registered a case. <br /><br />In another road incident, a 40-year-old security guard was mowed down by a motorcycle on Hebbal Outer Ring Road on Wednesday. <br /><br />The deceased, Raju, was crossing the road when the accident occurred. He was rushed to the Baptist hospital but succumbed to injuries. The two-wheeler rider has been identified to be an Iranian national but has not been traced yet.</p>
