BJP may ask scribe to shift to Hassan

The BJP on Friday sought State leaders' opinion whether to shift journalist Pratap Simha from Mysore to Hassan following protests from local leaders and workers that he is an outsider in the constituency.

The central leadership asked the State unit to communicate its stand before Central Election Committee meeting on Saturday.

The committee is also likely to decide candidates for two remaining seats  — Hassan and Bidar.

Several leaders of State unit have urged the Centre leadership to reconsider the nomination of Pratap Simha following opposition in the constituency.

As former MP Vijayshankar, contender for Mysore seat, is refusing to contest from Hassan, if an outsider is given the ticket, some felt hurting Vijayshankar would affect party prospects in Southern Karnataka as he is strong backward class leader.

The party senior leaders reportedly suggested that district leader Navile Annappa as candidate for Hassan seat if Vijayshankar declines the offer.

For Bidar, if former minister Gurupadappa Nagmarapalli and his son Suryakantha Nagamarapalli fail to take a decision on contesting, the party may give ticket to another local leader Mallikarjuna Kuba.
