Heads continue to roll in South police station

Last Updated 14 March 2014, 19:21 IST

Of late, police personnel in the city and rural limits are in news for all the wrong reasons. Little wonder, as five policemen have been suspended, including a police sub inspector Jagadish attached to South station, which is also known as rural station, as they have been booked for a major robbery case.

The policemen are accused of pocketing a major portion of Rs 2.25 crore seized from Kerala bound bus near Yelwal on the outskirts of the city on January 4.

The policemen in question had allegedly mentioned the amount seized as Rs 20 lakh against Rs 2.25 crore seized from the bus. The alleged flaw on the part of men in khaki came to light only after the person to whom the money belonged to cried foul.

If one were to go by the previous incidents involving the policemen attached to same station, the hall of shame list continues to grow. Less than a year ago, police sub-inspector Venkateshaiah (now posted in Mandya) attached to same station was trapped by Lokayukta police along with his driver for accepting bribe from a sand lorry operator. Interestingly, Jagdish the PSI in question for his role in money seizure case was transferred to South after Venkateshaiah was suspended in the bribery case.

Earlier, the then circle inspector Nemiraju was suspended twice owing to dereliction of duty. His  predecessor Gopalkrishna too was suspended on the proven charges of fixing an innocent in a murder case shielding the real culprit. Gopalkrishna was later transferred to Mangalore, from where he returned to railway police station in Mysore.

South station also known as rural station forms of three police stations- South, Yelwal and Jayapura, having the sub-police stations at Megalapura on Mysore- T Narsipur road and Kadakola on Mysore- Nanjangud road. The Circle Police Inspector (CPI) having his office in Mysore (South station) is the head  of the circle, with PSI cadre officer heading Yelwal and Jayapura stations.

The city police too are not behind in finding themselves in soup. A traffic ASI attached to N R station was suspended after a public video recorded his blatant act of letting off a traffic offender (who had parked his bike in prohibited area). Recently, a head constable attached to Vijayanagar station had to face the wrath of the higher ups for accepting bribe from a lorry driver near Belavadi check post.
