JOIN US Former MLA Raghupathy Bhat said the ‘padayatra’ against the proposed National Highway connecting Udupi-Hebri-Agumbe-Theerthalli will be staged from Parkala to Karavali junction on March 15.
Speaking to mediapersons, the former MLA said the proposed NH would displace around 28000 people and 3000 structures need to be demolished.
Out of this, nearly 600 are houses. The Padyatra will begin in the morning from Parkala high school grounds to Parkala Gandhi Maidan and will conclude with a public rally.
The padyatra in Parkala will be organised by the Udupi town BJP unit.
The affected people of the proposed National highway will be a part of the padayatra, he added.
He said the Central government’s decision to construct the national highway connecting Udupi-Hebri-Agumbe-Theerthalli is a welcome move but it should not overlap on state highway.
The diversion at every five kilometre will be another problem, he added.
