Shatrughan's nomination leads to clashes in Patna

Last Updated 20 March 2014, 19:42 IST

A day before the BJP sitting MP from Patna Sahib, Shatrughan Sinha, was to file his nomination papers, angry party workers came to blows at the BJP headquarters here on Thursday. The party activists were protesting the re-nomination of Shatrughan as the BJP candidate.

“The leader, who neither meets an ordinary BJP worker nor is available for redressing grievances of the common man, should not have been given a ticket again. We have, therefore, assembled to show him a black flag and register our protest,” said one of the hundreds of agitating BJP activists gathered outside the party office.

The Shatrughan’s supporters, in order to douse the dissent, thrashed anybody or everybody who shouted against the BJP MP. Amid the clash, several party workers sustained grievous injuries.

Prior to this embarrassing incident, Shatrughan, flanked by his wife Poonam and actor-son Luv Sinha, flew down to Patna where he will file his nomination papers on Friday. He is pitted against JD (U)’s nominee Dr Gopal Prasad Sinha, who is said to be the personal physician of the chief minister.
