The rift in slain DSP Zia-ul-Haq’s family over payment of insurance money came out in the open after the cop’s father sought police security alleging threat to his life from his daughter-in-law.

Father Shamsul Haq has given an application to senior police officers in his native Deoria district apprehending threat from Zia-ul-Haq’s wife Parveen Azad and asked for security, police sources said.

At the root of the discord is insurance money.

The reports said Haq had two insurance policies worth around Rs 12 lakh.

In one of the policies he had made his mother his nominee while in the other his father Shamsul was the nominee.

It was initially alleged that UP minister Raguraj Pratap Singh was involved in the conspiracy to kill the cop but the CBI probe later gave the minister a clean chit.

However, the payment of insurance claim got stuck after his wife Parveen Azad filed a petition in the district court of Deoria staking her claim over the money. The matter is still pending in the court.

“My daughter-in-law is also claiming share in all movable and immovable assets though she left us in the lurch after my son’s death,” Shamsul said.

“Though I have not received any threat from her but I do apprehend threat to life owing to the dispute,” Shamsul added.

However, Parveen refused to comment on the matter.

She has been appointed as OSD in the police department and a compensation of Rs 50 lakh was paid to her by the government.

Haq was shot dead during a clash between two groups at Kunda in Pratapgarh district in March last year.
