Sri Lanka women eased past their Indian counterparts in a Group B encounter in the women’s world T20  here on Monday.

Even though Sri Lanhad only made a modest 128/8 in their 20 overs, their bowlers restricted India to just 106/9, thus winning the match by 22 runs.

Udeshika Prabodhani emerged as the women of the match for her fine figures of 2/9 in four overs. Chamari Atapattu (43) was the top scorer for both the sides in this low-scoring encounter.

Indian chase never got the rhythm as they lost wickets at regular intervals to Lankan spinners, who exploited the sluggishness of the surface to good effect. Shikha Pandey, who made 22, was the top scorer for India, but there was not enough support for him.

In another match, West Indies women edged past the English women by nine runs. After the former had made 133/7, their bowlers restricted the England batsmen to 124/9.
