Opposing the decision of the government to close down Kendriya Vidyalaya at Kudremukh hobli in Kalasa, from April 1, the students of the institution took out a protest rally and staged a day-long hunger strike in front of the school on Wednesday.
More than 150 students took part in the protest. The protestors displayed placards and shouted slogans. By evening five to six students had fallen sick. Parents, who accompanied the students in the protest, expressed their displeasure at KIOCL for reducing the grant to the school.
“The KIOCL has given justification that the children can be admitted to Kendriya Vidyalayas in Mangalore,” parents said.
A memorandum was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner. The petition said that 170 children of Kudremukh are pursuing their education in the school. Hence, it should not be closed down.
