MLCs demand Kageri's resignation

They labelled his performance as shameful and inefficient.

Addressing the media on Friday, Putanna said that Visweshwara Hegde Kageri was treating teachers like they were enemies of the State. “Kageri’s handling of the affairs has been irresponsible and filled with mistakes,” he said.

He also demanded that the government bring back the cluster system of dealing with teachers salary, transport and transfer issues instead of giving the responsibility to
Block Education Officers (BEOs).

Other issues that he objected to included the minister’s handling of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyana scam in Mysore involving DDPIs and making B.Ed compulsory for even MA graduates.

Also present at the press conference were MLCs Y A Narayanaswamy and Marithibbe Gowda. Narayanaswamy called the transfer rules under Kageri as draconian and said that it had resulted in a number of teachers resigning from their posts.

“In my own native (Kolar) there have been instances of teachers resigning because they were not given transfers to areas with hospital facilities to treat health issues,” he alleged.

Meanwhile, Marithibbe Gowda took the minister to task for not calling even one meeting with the legislators, who belonged to the teachers constituency.  He also criticised the minister for being totally negligent and alleged that Kageri’s tenure was marked by protection of the corrupt.
