“The Sports Ministry has revised the guidelines for selection procedures for award of ‘Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy’ on 2.12.2009 for more transparency and accountability and for promoting dope free sporting culture in inter-University sports,” the ministry said in a statement.

In a bid to fine tune the existing procedure, Sports Minister MS Gill constituted a committee to streamline the selection procedures for award of MAKA Trophy.
The revised guidelines for awarding marks calls for more weightage to performance at the international level.

The new guidelines state that there should be a selection panel to pick the awardees and any last-minute addition or deletion of names not be done without the ministry’s consent.
The ministry has also released an ad-hoc grant of Rs 1.5 crore to the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) for holding of and participating in national and international inter-University tounaments.
