Indian shuttler Sourabh Varma fought hard but eventually went down to Indonesian 15th seed Simon Santoso in the men’s singles final of the $120,000 Malaysia Grand Prix Gold here on Sunday.
The eighth-seeded Indian went down 21-15, 16-21, 19-21 in an encounter which lasted an hour and nine minutes at the Stadium Perbandaran Pasir Gudang here.
“It was a tough match. I took time initially because he is a tricky player. I was confused with the strategy but later on I got the correct strategy.
“But in the end I was little unlucky not to turn the match in my favour,” Sourabh told PTI.
“The final game was neck to neck. I was a bit unlucky in the rally which I played on 19-19 in the third game. He took some risk to come up to the net, which could have gone in anybody’s favour,” he said.
