BMTC bus stolen, found abandoned next day

BMTC officials were flabbergasted when they realised that one of their buses parked on the service road near Kempegowda Bus Terminal (KBS) in Majestic area was stolen on Friday night. It was found abandoned near Hoskote on Saturday.

The bus that plies between Majestic and Marathalli, on Route no 336 was stolen by a miscreant. The bus driver and conductor after returning from Marathalli at around 11.30 pm, parked the bus on the service road near the Majestic bus stand and went to have dinner. When they returned, they found the bus missing, according to Upparpet police station.

On Saturday morning, a BMTC employee belonging to a repair depot was passing by Hoskote-Chintamani road and spotted the bus lying abandoned on the road. Assuming the bus was under repair, he went to check but did not find any crew. He quickly alerted the officials.

The BMTC officials had planned to register a complaint on Saturday morning. However, they got the information about the whereabouts of the bus just in time, said police.

An official from the BMTC, who did not want to be named, said: “We have no idea who stole it and for what they did it. Moreover, these old buses, apparently, don’t have the lock system and pressing a button is enough to start them.”

Someone might have done this just to play a prank and the miscreant seems to be well-versed with driving the bus as it did not even have a minor damage when it was found, he added.
