JOIN USBJP promises moon in manifesto
The BJP has plans to develop the ports and harbours in the district on Gujarat hi-tech model, as mentioned in its poll manifesto.
After the release of manifesto, BJP Udupi district unit President Tingalaya Vikramarjuna Hegde said all the harbours in the district would be upgraded and a parallel port to NMPT will be set up in Udupi. He said the party would do all attempts to offer satellite based fishing facilities in the ports. He also assured that special fishing zone would be set up, besides measures to curb sea-erosion problems, which will be taken up on priority. He added that technologies from other countries would be borrowed to construct permanent sea walls. Extensive disaster management plans will be chalked out to successfully manage the natural disasters.
He added that measures would be taken to make relaxations in the Kasturirangan report, besides measures to support areca-nut plantations and compensate the areca-nut farmers who are affected with yellow leaf disease.
Hegde further said that water grid would be formed by connecting the rivers that flows in two districts. Measures will be taken to build all season water route connecting Mangalore to Karwar. At least six super speciality hospitals will be built in the constituency and attempts will be made to introduce air-ambulance facilities. Skill development centers will be established to encourage employments to the unemployed youths.
Programmes for women
Amendment will be made in the laws pertaining to the punishment against women atrocities, if BJP comes to power. Mobile health service will be offered exclusively to women, in the model of 108 ambulances. Also, an auto-rickshaw driving school will be opened exclusively for women, Thingalaya said.
Transport
Plans will be chalked out for sophisticated road maintenance programme and measures will be taken to construct Padubidri-Karkala-Mudigere-Chikmagalur express highway. The proposal for a separate airport in Udupi will be considered and MRO hub will be built. Railway connectivity will also taken up and Udupi division of Konkan railway comprising Ullal to Madgaon will be introduced.
Other projects
Measures will be taken to supply power to both the districts on priority from UPCL power plant and Varahi hydel project. He added that BJP has plans to set up 100 smart cities across the country and Udupi and Chikmagalur cities will be included. A global standard university will be set up in Chikmagalur. Measures will be taken to strengthen the security aspects in the coastal district making use of sophisticated technologies, he added.
The manifesto was released by veteran BJP leader Somashekhar Bhat on the occasion.
