Security beefed up for Rahul's visit

The Mangalore city police commissionerate has ordered for temporary traffic diversion in the city on Friday, in the wake of AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the city to address the Congress workers’ rally at Nehru Maidan.

Parking and movement of vehicles will be barred on the road leading to the programme venue and separate parking arrangements are made for the programme participants. Briefing mediapersons on Thursday, Police Commissioner R Hitendra said that parking of vehicles is barred within 500 radius of the venue with effect from Thursday evening to Friday evening, till the closure of the programme.

Parking of vehicles is also prohibited in Circuit House premises from Friday 9 am to Saturday, till the exit of Rahul Gandhi. Adequate arrangements have been made with security and police personnel, bomb detection squad in place to provide safety and avoid any untoward incident on the occasion, the police commissioner said.

All the vehicles arriving for the programme from Kundapur-Udupi-Surathkal will have to ply via Kottara Chowki-Ladyhill-Lalbagh-M G Road- PVS-Navbharath Circle and take a right turn on K S Rao Road and alight people near Mohini Vilas and park the vehicles near Ullal Nursing Home ground. Vehicles arriving from Moodbidri-Karkala should come on Nanthoor-St Agnes College-SCS Hospital-Collector Gate-Athena Hospital-Avery Junction and alight people near Milagres Church and park the vehicles at Vamana Nayak ground via Attavar KMC-Koti Chennaiah Circle.

Vehicles arriving from Belthangady-Bantwal-Kasargod will have to travel via Pumpwell Circle-Karavali circle-Kankanadi-Valencia-Koti Chennaiah Circle-Mangaladevi-Pandeshwar road and alight people at Nehru Circle and park the vehicle at Emmekere ground or St Ann’s school ground or Rosario school ground. The temporary traffic diversion will be applicable to all other buses and vehicles. 

Route change

All the KSRTC buses that come to KSRTC bus stand through Pumpwell should come through Nanthoor-KPT-Kuntikana-Baliga Store and return on the same route. The vehicle movement will be temporarily prohibited from Athena Hospital towards Shanti Nilaya-Balmatta.

Only those vehicles with official passes will have entry towards Nehru Maidan. Traffic diversion will be in force from 12 pm on Friday, till the VIP leaves the venue.
