SDPI blames money-lending, inactive cops for killings

Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has demanded a CBI or CID probe into the case where seven members of a family in the city had been set ablaze, recently.

Addressing the media here on Thursday, State president of SDPI K H Abdul Majid said Afzal Pasha had to pay with his life for raising his voice against money-lending, which is rampant among the minority communities. It had turned out to be a social malaise, he said.

“Afzal Pasha who had earlier borrowed from Jabeena couple had duly returned the amount. Later, he advised others against borrowing from Jabeena, that triggered the incident, eventually ending with the bid to wipe out the family,” he said. Majid said that even the local police were to blamed for failing to act stringently as and when the victims of such harassments knocked on their doors.

Earlier to the Monday’s incident too, Afzal had approached police against Jabeena, but to no avail.

To check the recurrence of such incidents in the future, Police Commissioner M A Saleem has been apprised of the issue. However, the money-lending menace would continue, until the government initiated steps to strengthen the micro-financing system for the benefit of economically weaker sections.

Majid demanded better treatment for the injured children by shifting them to a sophisticated hospital. He also demanded that they be rehabilitated and be compensated duly.
