Karnataka crash to massive defeat

Karnataka crashed to a stunning 108-run loss against Goa in the South Zone T20 tournament for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, suffering their third loss here on Friday

Electing to bat first, Goa rode on Sagun Kamat’s blistering 61-ball 95 and Swapnil Asnodkar’s 40-ball 51 to post an impressive 174/6 from their allotted 20 overs.

Captain R Vinay Kumar, with 3-14 of his four overs, was the lone bright spot amongst the bowlers who went for plenty amidst the Kamat and Asnodkar assault.

Needing to chase at 8.75 runs per over, Karnataka had very little choice but to attack from the start but their hopes were in tatters when both the openers -- Robin Uthappa and Manish Pandey -- were dismissed within seven balls.

At Vizianagaram: Hyderabad: 76 all out in 20 overs (Bodavarapu Sudhakar 3-9, Duvvarapu Shivkumar 4-6, Swaroop Kumar 2-17) lt to Andhra: 77/2 in 11.3 overs (Prasanth Kumar 33 n.o., Jyothi Sai Krishna 33).

Gambhir shines

Gautam Gambhir led from the front with a breezy unbeaten 75 as Delhi cruised to a nine-wicket win over Haryana to record their fourth straight victory in a North Zone leg match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy on Friday.

Himachal Pradesh: 127/8 in 20 overs (Rishi Dhawan 44; Waseem Raza 3-21) bt J&K: 110 all out in 19.3 overs (Abid Nabi 39, Pranav Gupta 28; Akshay Chauhan 4-16).Punjab: 154/6 in 20 overs (Harbhajan Singh 78, Himanshu Chawla 50; Arnav Kush 2-37) bt Services: 145/9 in 20 overs (Soumya Swain 46; Rahul Sharma 4-21).
