'8 quality control labs in coastal dists'

Palemar opens lab to maintain quality at Belthangady

Speaking after inaugurating one such lab in Belthangady on Saturday, he said the labs are aimed at assuring quality roads to the public. In fact, the three districts require a total of 14 labs. However, eight are being established now, he said.

Responding to an appeal by the Public Works Department Superintending Engineer B S Balakrishna, the minister said the vacancies in the department would be filled soon.
Balakrishna said the Mangalore Circle of PWD has only 60 per cent of staff (54 instead of 84) which has been hindering the progress of works in the region.

Projects

The works of 380 roads at a cost of Rs 100 crore and the repair of 120 buildings are being taken up. The projects of Rs 50 crore are being implemented at Kukke Subrahmanya Temple, Palemar informed.

Home Minister Dr V S Acharya, who was present on the occasion, said the implementing authorities should not make any compromise in terms of quality while laying roads.
Belthangady MLA K Vasanth Bangera presided.
