Crorepatis crowd list of candidates in Jammu

In a state where there is no industry worth the name, several crorepatis have joined the electoral battle so far. In the Jammu-Poonch and Udhampur-Doda parliamentary constituencies, nine candidates are crorepatis.

Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad’s wife Shameem and daughter Sofiya have cash and gold worth Rs 1.75 crore. The Congress candidate from the Udhampur-Doda seat, Azad himself has Rs 57.92 lakh cash in hand and money in bank accounts. Azad has 9,486.41 square metres of agriculture land in the Washim district of Vidarbha region, whose current market value has been shown as Rs 70 lakh.

Wife of Anil Gupta, son of BJP rebel Chaman Lal Gupta, owns Rs 1.92 crore worth immovable assets. JKDF candidate Gupta, a businessman, himself has shown owning Rs 46.25 lakh worth of immovable assets.

BJP candidate from Udhampur-Doda, Jitendra Singh has total cash, Fixed Deposits, other deposits and gold valued at Rs 88.22 lakh. He has shown that his wife has assets worth Rs 65.42 lakh.

BSP candidate Dharam Pal Balgotra has immovable assets worth Rs 1.37 crore, while his wife Madhu Bala Balgotra, who has also filed her nomination papers as covering candidate of the BSP, has Rs 13.20 lakh worth of immovable assets.

Congress candidate from Jammu-Poonch seat, Madan Lal Sharma has shown total cash with him at Rs 35.36 lakh.

State BJP president and Sharma’s rival in the constituency, Jugal Kishore Sharma, has total investments in bank, insurance and gold worth Rs 64.50 lakh, while his wife Usha has similar investments of Rs 15.28 lakh.

Socialist Democratic Party candidate Gursagar Singh Ishar has Rs 1.65 crore worth of immovable assets, while his total investments are valued at Rs 25.25 lakh. His spouse's assets are worth Rs 5.15 lakh, including gold worth Rs 4.5 lakh.

Bharatiya Bahujan Party candidate Girdhari Lal Bhagat has Rs 68 lakh in bank accounts and gold worth Rs 1.8 lakh.
