Asif, after helping skittle New Zealand for a paltry 99 in the first innings with figures of 4/40 did pretty much the same in the second innings picking up all the three New Zealand wickets to fall on the day to leave the hosts reeling at 70/3, needing another 334 runs to win the match with two days play still left.
Earlier a studied innings of 83 and another half century by Umran Akmal helped Pakistan post a target of 404 after ending their second innings on 239 all out. Good spells from fast bowlers Chris Martin (4/52) and Iain O’Brien (4/66) helped hosts restrict Pakistan.
