Undeterred by both rift within the party unit and the sizzling sun above, Congress candidate from Mandya Lok Sabha constituency Ramya continued her campaign in the villages across the taluk on Sunday.

However, supporters of actor-minister Ambarish, who had clashed with the Ramya faction, distanced themselves from the canvassing. Block Congress president S L Lingaraju, leaders P H Chandrashekar, Induvalu Sachidananda, J  Somashekar and former panchayat president S Linganna did not take part in the campaigning.

Ramya, who was accompanied by KPCC member Ravindra Srikantaiah and T S Satyananda, campaigned at the KRS, Belagola, Palachalli, Kiranguru, Baburayanakoppalu, Srinivasa Agrahara, Chinnayakanhalli, Maralagala, Doddapalya and Mandyakoppalu.

Speaking at Kiranguru, Ramya said she had visited many villages after she was elected in the bypolls and understands the problems faced by people in rural areas. It is necessary to find a solution to their problems, she added, seeking the voters’ support.

Ambarish, who is now recuperating after a bout of illness, will campaign for Ramya on April 14,  party sources said. Preparations are on for the rally which will be held at the Silver Jubilee Park in the town, the sources added.
