The Shimoga-Bangalore-Shimoga Inter-city Express will be flagged off from Bangalore City railway station on Tuesday by Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is making her maiden visit to the State after assuming the office.

The train was supposed to be inaugurated two months ago, but was put off, as the railway minister’s trip was cancelled at the last minute, due to floods in North Karnataka. According to the Ministry sources, the train will depart from platform no eight on November 8 at 12.30 pm.

Demand for train

There was a demand for the train by businessmen from Shimoga and Bhadravathi and by State government officials who had to visit Vidhana Soudha. Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, elected from Shikaripura in Shimoga district, is said to have played a key role in giving the move a push.

The Shimoga-Bangalore Inter-city Express (Train no. 6202) is slated to leave Shimoga at 6 am and reach Bangalore at 12.30 pm. It would leave Shimoga and pass through Bhadravathi, Tarikere, Birur, Arsikere, Tumkur and reach Bangalore City. In the return direction, the Bangalore-Shimoga Inter-city Express (Train no. 6201) is slated to depart Bangalore City railway station at 4.30 pm and reach Shimoga by 10.30 pm.
