AAP’s East Delhi candidate Rajmohan Gandhi has hit a note that resonates with the common man. His manifesto promises hostels for migrant labourers, basic amenities in slums and more old age homes.

His wife is also taking part in some all-women roadshows and public meetings to garner support for him.

The 78-year-old candidate’s 15-point manifesto was released four days before the city goes to the polls. Releasing the manifesto, he said that if voted to power he will emphasise on basic amenities like water, sanitation, sewage and electricity.

Gandhi said he regrets that the former AAP government fell short from delivering these promises.

Cleanliness of the Yamuna would be high on his priority, he said. Also emphasising on high pollution level and congestion of roads in East Delhi, Gandhi’s manifesto proposes multi-level parking, better Metro connectivity and flyovers. He said his party will work towards creating equal access to education, health care and livelihood.

Addressing a large migrant population in his constituency, he said he will build hostels for migrant workers. Gandhi said sanitation is a major concern in East Delhi slums. In his manifesto, he also promised no demolition of illegal colonies till people are rehabilitated.

He said it is important to delink land owning agency Delhi Development Authority from the control of the central government.

On Monday, his wife Usha Gandhi led an all-woman rally in Laxmi Nagar. “Women volunteers in the constituency are organising the roadshows,” a party worker said.
