The subsidiary of the Netherlands-based consumer electronic giant Philips said it has chalked out ambitious plans for the lighting business and is increasing overall product portfolio and expanding manufacturing capacity.

"In consumer lighting we have come out with a new range of new decorative home lighting product," Philips Electronics India CEO (Lighting Division) Rajeev Chopra told PTI. "We now have 500 products in the category and that will go up to 1,500 within 12 months," he said.

Philips wants to take the lead in decorative luminaires area, which continues to be largely unorganised, Chopra added.

The company is in the process of introducing new generation, energy efficient LED bulbs in the market, which it has started manufacturing in India.
"We are leading the way for manufacturing LED bulbs for homes. We would be first to launch these products in India," Chopra said.

The company is setting up showrooms and lounges in various cities to showcase new lighting products and is sharpening focus on expanding distribution network. MORE
Philips is also doubling production capacity of its CFL manufacturing plant in Mohali to 80 million units in the next six to nine months.

Lighting business accounts for about 50 per cent of the Dutch subsidiary's revenues, which were in the region of Rs 3,100 crore last year.
