Oscar-winning actress Penelope Cruz says she was terrified of singing while shooting for her new movie 'Nine' as she tried it for the first time.

Speaking on the red carpet at the London premiere of the musical movie in Leicester Square, the 35-year-old Spanish beauty admitted that her singing was a bit rusty because she hadn't done it in public for years, Femalefirst reported.

"Singing was terrifying because it was new and because it was my first time. It was like doing theatre, but I only did theatre as a student in Spain," Cruz said.

'Nine' is one of the most anticipated movies this year and boasts of a large star cast that includes Daniel Day-Lewis, Judi Dench, Nicole Kidman, Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, and Sophia Loren, among others.

In the movie, Cruz plays a seductress Carla Albanese, who tries to charm Daniel Day-Lewis' character, director Guido Contini, in the film. She was all praise for the costume designer of which accentuated her character.

"The woman who designed the costumes for every one of us, I think she really must be one of the most amazing artists," Cruz said.
