The Congress on Friday told the Election Commission an FIR should be registered against Narendra Modi for furnishing “false” affidavits in past elections as he did not mention the name of his wife in the nomination papers.

The ruling party also demanded that the then returning officers and other electoral staff be booked in the case for colluding with Modi.

Modi contested Assembly polls once from Rajkot in 2001, and later from Maninagar consecutively in 2002, 2007 and 2012. He, however, did not furnish details on his marital status in the nomination papers.

Though the Gujarat chief minister, for the first time, admitted that he was married while filing nomination paper for Lok Sabha polls from Vadodara in Gujarat recently, the Congress charged him with “suppressing” the fact in this poll document, too, as he did not mention income, assets and liabilities of Jashodaben despite her being a retired school teacher and getting pension.

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi targeted Modi’s marital status at an election rally in Srinagar.
