CCTV camers to be installed at five sensitive locations: SP

Following the repeated untoward incidents and communal clashes in Kalladka, the police department has taken measures to strengthen its vigilance in the town, by installing CCTV cameras in five sensitive locations.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a programme at Panambur beach on Sunday, Superintendent of Police Sharanappa has said that installation of CCTV cameras will help the police to keep an eye on the activities in the sensitive locations. It will be monitored in the local police station. The cameras have been already installed after the Thursday’s incident.

Meanwhile, the department has also decided to place cameras in 12 additional locations in the district including in Puttur bus stand, Eshwaramangala, Nekkiladi in Puttur taluk and Navoor in Belthangady taluk. 

The cameras are placed in sensitive areas, check posts, border areas and bus stands. Four cameras will be installed in each location. 

Twenty cameras in five strategic locations in Kalladka have been installed and 36 cameras in 12 locations will be installed before the election, the SP said.

“These cameras have the storage capacity for 20 days. They will be placed in a systematic manner, with the mechanism in place to track the culprits in case of any attempts are made steal, damage or destroy the cameras. The district administration has released Rs five lakh for the purpose,” he said.

On Kalladka issue, he said that the security has been beefed up with BSF, paramilitary, Kerala State police, two KSRP platoons and local police deployed in the town. 

“Five have been arrested in the case and a few more are yet to be arrested. Section 144 has been lifted on Sunday evening,” Superintendent of Police, Sharanappa said.
