CM confident of Congress victory

Last Updated 13 April 2014, 16:50 IST

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has expressed confidence that the Congress will emerge victorious in the Lok Sabha polls. The Congress will win 20 seats in the State.

Speaking to mediapersons on his maiden visit to the temple town after assuming power on Sunday, the CM said that it was his responsibility to ensure that the Congress wins the election. However, there is no pressure from the High Command, he clarified.

He declined the allegations that he has directed the district in charge ministers to work towards reaching out the victory target for the party’s candidate. He said that the poll surveys make no sense as the recent political state of affairs in the state clearly indicates the victory of the Congress.

Retorting to a query, the CM said “there arises no question of Narendra Modi taking care of former CM Deve Gowda, as there is no possibilities of Modi becoming the Prime Minister or Deve Gowda retiring from politics. The former PM will never leave politics.”

Asserting that the development process in Gujarat is negated, the Chief Minister assumed that Gujarat is not number one in the chart of developed states. Hence, Modi will never be able to initiate development programmes in Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency, as claimed by him in his election rally in Chikmagalur.

The CM said “Yeddyurappa is not an astrologer to predict the future of the candidate of Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency. Yeddyurappa’s predictions deserves no value.”

He also turned down the recent poll predictions that the BJP and Congress would win equal number of seats, while JD(S) will win two seats. There is a triangular fight in Shimoga Lok Sabha constituency and hence it is tough to predict.

“The cine actors campaigning for the candidates would not have any major impact, as voters are wise enough to decide over the candidate. It solely depends on the capability of the candidate and the party he or she represents,” Siddaramaiah added. He refused to comment on Doreswamy’s statement on Veerappa Moily.

“Corruption charges against Moily is not proved. There are several corrupt leaders in the BJP. Yeddyurappa who is corrupt is also contesting the election,” the CM noted.
