Last Updated 15 April 2014, 17:34 IST

Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer A B Ibrahim has said that the Election Commission has introduced a new IVRS system to ensure that the booth-level information on Lok Sabha polling will be updated periodically.

Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, he said that according to the system, data will be collected from all the 54,000 polling booths in the State. The district administration has also made arrangement to receive SMS from BLOs on the polling percentage periodically.

Electors who need to know which polling station they have to cast their votes, can send a message with details of his or her Elector’s Photo Identity Card (EPIC) number to 9243355223 by prefixing KAEPIC. The message will subsequently generate the voter’s name, serial number on the voter’s list, polling booth number and location.

The DC said that final randomisation of the polling officials were held. A total of 213 polling stations are manned by women polling officials in the district.

The total number of buses deployed for polling purposes include 257 buses, 20 mini buses, 135 maxi cabs, 123 jeeps and 16 lorries. In addition to 8,108 polling officials, a total of 1,800 D group employees have been deployed.

Additional DC Sadashiva Prabhu has said that 7,024 Election Duty Certificates have been issued to the polling officials. A total of 373 postal ballots have been issued.
