Former union minister Janardhan Poojary has demanded CBI probe into circumstances in which Anti Naxal Force (ANF) allegedly shot dead Kabeer, a resident of Krishnapura, at Tanikodu forest check post in Sringeri.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Monday, he said “the incident is nothing but a cold-blooded murder. It is the duty of the State government to give protection to its citizens. However, the police who were engaged in maintaining law and order shot dead an innocent. The police have failed to arrest ANF personnel who shot at the victim. The DGP should have asked for CBI inquiry to conduct an impartial probe to bring out the truth.”

To a query on CID probe, he said that CID is in the police department. CBI is an independent body, to bring out the truth.

“By handing over the case to the CBI to probe, the police force will not be demoralised. Instead, it will instill faith and confidence in the minds of the general public,” Poojary said.
Coming down heavily on Home Minister K J George, Poojary said that the latter had, through his actions, made people to consider him as one of the weakest ministers in the cabinet.

“He should entrust the case to the CBI, as people have no faith in the CID investigation,” he said.

Despite the fact that a number of evidences point out towards murder, the Home department has remained silence over the killing of Kabeer. Besides, it has failed to take any stringent action against the ANF personnel involved in the shooting at Kabeer. “Why is the police department hesitating to take any action? Answers to all these questions will have to be revealed through an independent investigation,” he stressed.

Former union minister said that the police department should announce a compensation of Rs 20 lakh to the family of the victim. The DGP should also make an arrangement to provide a job to a member of the family in the police department.

Why the police failed to check assault on family members of the victim by the Hindu outfit organisation, in Sringeri when they had been to the place to get the body of the deceased. Whether the police department is hand in glove with the Hindu organisations? he asked.

‘Hidden agenda’

Flaying BJP leader Giriraj Singh over his inflammatory remark that those opposing Narendra Modi should go to Pakistan, Poojary said that the BJP high Command has failed to initiate action against him.

“The statement clearly shows hidden agenda of the BJP. The CPM, SP, BSP, JD(S) have opposed Modi. Will the BJP send crores of people who have opposed Modi to Pakistan?” he asked.

The manifesto of the BJP which speaks on amendment to Article 370 of the  Constitution under which Jammu & Kashmir is enjoying autonomy and introduction of the Uniform Civil Code clearly indicate that they want to divide the country. Whether Uniform Civil Code is possible in a secular country like India?” he asked. The BJP has raised the issue of Ram Mandira, when the issue is before the Supreme Court, he flayed.
