Last Updated 22 May 2009, 18:05 IST

Though the government had announced in its budget the reduction of stamp duty to boost the sagging construction industry, an error while printing the notification had resulted in the clause not being amended for registration of apartments.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Shobha Karandlaje said the change will come into effect the day the promulgation order is signed by the Governor.

Land for IISc

As promised by CM Yeddyurappa that the government will provide 1,500 acres of land to Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Chitradurga to develop its second campus, the Cabinet gave a formal approval for the same.

Yeddyurappa had made the promise during the centenary celebrations of IISc earlier this year. The government has identified land at Kudapura in Challakere taluk in Chitradurga.
The statues of Jawaharlal Nehru, B R Ambedkar and Subash Chandra Bose in front of Vidhana Soudha will be temporarily shifted a few feet back inside the campus to facilitate the Metro work.

The state government will celebrate its first year in office by organising a convention at National College grounds on May 31.

Certificates for beneficiaries of various schemes announced by the government- Sandhya Suraksha and Bhagyalakhsmi will be distributed at the convention.
