Distribution of DEC tablets from Dec 11

 
Addressing a press meet, he said the weather here is suitable for the production of culex mosquitoes which cause filaria. India stands first in filaria disease. For the eradication of the disease, every year DEC tablets are being distributed in the month of December. The disease is commonly found in Mangalore, Udupi, Karwar, Bidar, Gulbarga, Raichur, Bagalkot and Vijapura.

After the distribution of the tablets, the blood test will be conducted in 3 villages where filaria cases are on rise between 10 pm and 2 am. 5,500 volunteers have been deployed for the distribution of the tablet. As many as 1,966 booths have been created. There is no side effects after the consumption of the tablet. However, DEC tablets should not be consumed by children below two years, pregnant women, aged and those who are ill, he cautioned. The tablet should not be consumed empty stomach as well, he added.

He said children between the age group of 2 to 5 will be asked to consume 100 mg DEC one tablet; children between 5 and 14 will be asked to consume 100 mg DEC 2 tablets while those above 14 years will have to consume 100 mg DEC 3 tablets.
