Ramdev remarks prompt EC guidelines

Baba Ramdev’s controversial comment about Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s visits to Dalits’ homes have prompted the Election Commission (EC) to come out with guidelines to rein in the likes of the yoga guru who are taking part in electioneering in the guise of holding non-political events.

The EC has warned social, cultural and religious organisations or individuals against invoking religion or making malicious or offending statements against anyone or about the personal lives of anyone. The poll panel has made it mandatory for any social, cultural or religious organisations to give undertakings to district authorities while seeking permission to hold any event, committing that they would strictly adhere to the guidelines.
