Increase in financial aid to SC students sought

Last Updated 28 April 2014, 20:34 IST

The Scheduled Caste Cell of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee has demanded the State government to increase the financial aid to the SC students to Rs 1,000

.

Addressing press conference on Monday, Manjunath, president of the cell, said presently the SC students from Class five and Class 10 in private schools are entitled for a scholarship of Rs 500 while those studying in the government schools avail Rs 650 per month. He said the government should increase it to Rs 1,000 in view of the inflation.

Manjunath complained that the benefits of the schemes are not reaching the students staying in the SC/ST hostels. He emphasised on the need for a separate managing authority for the hostels in the State.

During the press conference, he took a strong objection to Baba Ramdev's statement on the visit of Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi to Dalit houses.
