Inter-caste marriage: Man 'stabs' bro-in-law

Last Updated 30 April 2014, 20:23 IST

A man is battling for life after his wife’s brother allegedly stabbed him multiple times in the chest and abdomen at his home on Idgah Road in Varthur on Tuesday evening. The suspect, who is absconding, disapproved of his sister’s marriage as her husband belonged to a different caste.

The victim, Murali, was alone at home when his brother-in-law Arjun, 25, barged in around 7 pm and stabbed him. As a grievously injured Murali collapsed, screaming for help, Arjun scooted off. Neighbours then rushed in and took Murali to a hospital in Whitefield where he is said to be critical, police said.

Police further said Arjun had disapproved of his sister Rani’s marriage to Murali who hails from Hosur taluk in Tamil Nadu and belongs to a different caste. Murali had recently settled in Bangalore and was doing some odd jobs.

Rani, 18, was his neighbour. Her parents hail from KGF and settled in Idgah Road just a year ago. Arjun is Rani’s elder brother. All of them work as labourers, police added. Murali and Rani courted for some time before getting married, much against Arjun’s wishes.

Arjun held Rani as well as their parents responsible for the inter-caste marriage, and would often threaten them. He is suspected to have plotted Murali’s murder and almost killed him, police said and added that they had definite leads on him and arrest him soon.
