Abhay Deol has built his career around distinctive roles, be it as a suave thief in Oye Lucky, Lucky Oye or the modern-day lover in Dev D. Without a doubt he is Bollywood’s answer to a cross-over actor. Says a source, “Like Johnny Depp, Abhay is definitely a character-oriented actor, he is the most sought-after cross-over actor in Bollywood. In fact, everyone also believes he can do great commercially.”

What has caught everyone’s eye is the fact that Abhay gets invited to almost all film festivals world over. An industry insider reveals, “This year itself, Abhay was invited to Osian Film Festival, Venice Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival, Moma Film Festival and Doha Tribeca Film Festival. That itself is a huge honour for Abhay. He has also lectured at many of these festivals thanks to his amazing knowledge on films and film-making. In fact, the Tribeca Film Festival has been held in Doha for the first time ever for Asian films and Abhay was invited because of his tremendous fan following.”

All these festivals have had Abhay travelling to various places like Toronto, Rio de Janeiro, Doha, Venice, Pennsylvania etc. Similarly, Abhay met the likes of veteran directors and actors like Martin Scorcese, Robert De Niro, Jodie Foster, Matt Damon during his roller coaster visit to all the festivals.

In Road, Abhay plays a truck driver whose life goes through a complete transformation.  The movie shows Abhay meeting different people including a young boy, a tribal woman, a silly and a wise man during his journey.
Abhay will soon be seen in Aisha with Sonam Kapoor and Basra, with which he turns producer.
