The Liberhan Commission report on demolition of Babri Masjid generated heat in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday with the Congress and the SP squarely blaming the BJP for the demolition of the historic structure while the main Opposition described the report a “national joke”.

Abhishek Singhvi, who was fielded by the Congress as its principal speaker, termed the BJP “hypocritic” blaming it for diverting the main issue as to who was responsible for the demolition of the mosque. “The issue is who demolished the Babri Masjid and why did they do it,” Singhvi said.

He said former Prime Minister A B Vajpayee “shares some guilt” by associating himself with those who were involved with demolition of Babri Masjid and if he felt aggrieved by the Liberhan Commission report, he can approach the court.

Picking holes in the report including several factual error, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley said, “The report is devoid of any credibility, a report which is an exercise in futility, a report which has been called a dud report and the ATR itself indicates it is an unimplementable report.”

Jaitely took a dig at Justice Liberhan saying he perpetuated his “self-employment” for 17 long years after retirement.
