Taking on the Election Commission (EC) at a public rally at Asansol in the Burdwan district of West Bengal on Sunday, the BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi dared the poll panel to act against him for alleging that the poll process in UP, Bihar and West Bengal had been disrupted by use of unfair means.

Complaining of rigging, Modi alleged that the poll panel has not been acting impartially.
“Why are you not acting? What is your intention? If you feel what I am saying now is wrong, you are free to lodge another case against me. It is your responsibility to ensure impartial polls. I am making very serious allegations,” he said.

“False cases have been filed against our candidate Babul Supriyo. The EC’s work is to protect people. I request you to fulfil your responsibilities in the right way,” said Modi said at the rally in favour the BJP candidate from Asansol parliamentary seat.

Pointing out that the poll panel has all the government machinery at its disposal and more powers than even the prime minister, he said, “It is your responsibility to ensure impartial polls. Democracy doesn’t work like this. I know how much rigging took place in the elections on April 30. Will this continue?”

Recalling that he had said in UP, too, that in some areas problems would take place, he said, “The EC could do nothing. Today I am saying it again. Is it not the responsibility of the Election Commission that elections be peaceful?”

Meanwhile, the colliery township, which shares a border with Jharkhand, was witness to a great show on Sunday. The much-talked-about bout between the BJP prime ministerial candidate and Bengal’s matinee idol Dev was to take place in back-to-back rallies at Asansol.

However, Dev's rally was cancelled for undisclosed reasons at the last moment, depriving the people a political battle that might have been the show of the poll season.
